Home Remedies For Acne From Your Kitchen and Garden

by: Gerrald Hendrix

Why use home remedies for acne treatment when there are so many medications available? The answers will probably vary from person to person but some common reasons will be the naturalness of the treatments and the successes. All results will not be the same, but for those who have found success they are true believers. Natural "medicine" has been around for a long time, obviously predating modern methods. Recipes for treatments are numerous and simple to find online, perfectly natural and healthy and best of all many ingredients are available from your kitchen and garden.

Just to look at a few examples:

Oatmeal is not just for breakfast or cookies anymore. An oatmeal facial mask will work wonders for those with oily skin. Just crush or grind the oatmeal to a fine powder-like consistency and mix with water to form a paste. Apply as a facial mask and allow it to remain 10-20 minutes. Rinse off with cold water to remove the paste and close your skin's pores. Now you have a mild, gentle and very effective way to rid your face of excess oil.

Witch hazel is another good home remedy cleanser, tolerated by most skin types. Easily obtained from an herbal supply store, witch hazel plant can be mixed according to the recipes to make a very effective cleaning solution. Recipes there again can easily be found online.

Some may be tempted to cleanse their face with alcohol. Opinions seem to be divided over whether alcohol is good or bad. As a cleanser it removes oil and kills the "bad" bacteria, but at the same time kills the "good" bacteria. Use sparingly if at all seems to be the middle of the road advice.

A less aggressive way to cleanse and kill bacteria can be found by using lemon juice. The lemon's juice acts as an astringent to remove the oil and cleanse the pores, and its citric acid will kill bacteria. A side benefit to the skin is a topical application of vitamin C. Mix a teaspoonful of lemon juice and a teaspoonful of cinnamon powder and apply 1-2 times daily.

Try apple cider vinegar for its skin toning and lightening effect. By reducing the size of your skin's pores, the vinegar aids in reducing the formation of blackheads.

Some ingredients used in home remedies for acne are:

• Raw garlic
• Kaolin clay and tomato
• Cucumbers
• Blueberries
• Orange peels
• Cucumber leaves
• Basil leaves
• Mint juice
• Red and orange fruits
• Herbs
• Tea Tree oil

It is important to note that this is just a sample listing to illustrate the variety of natural ingredients and methods that might be employed. The purpose of this information is to expose you to some of the alternatives for treatment. Your specific condition, your skin type, finding the "right" remedy and your commitment to use it will be some of the variables affecting your success. Success may even be dependent on using a combination of treatments.

If you are searching for natural alternatives, there are none more so than home remedies. Acne relief and healing may be literally as close as your kitchen and garden.
